I have always loved to travel. I have an insatiable desire to learn about other cultures, history and languages. I have been blessed with the opportunity to go to Europe, Asia, India, Africa, Latin America, Canada and half of the states of the US during my lifetime. I feel comfortable spending time with people of all ethnic backgrounds and enjoy sharing ideas with people who think differently than I do.
I never really put much thought into why I am the way I am until I learned about my genetic ethnicity profile through AncestryDNA.com. My mother had encouraged me to do the testing and when she offered to pay for it I decided to go for it. I have always been told that my on my mother’s side I am German, Welsh and Polish and on my father’s side I am Mexican American. I was not expecting much else to show up.
I was quite stunned by the results. This is what I learned about myself. I am 20% Eastern European, 18% Native American, 17% Welsh, 13% Iberian (Spain) and 12% Scandinavian. In addition, I have very small amounts of DNA from Caucasus, a region located at the border of Europe and Asia, situated between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea and occupied by Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. But that’s not all. I also have DNA from Southern and Western Europe, Finland/NW Russia, Southern and Central Asia, Africa (Mali and Senegal) and European Jewish!! Is there any wonder I love to travel and am fascinated with cultures?
A major bonus to doing AncestryDNA testing is that I also received genetic results that I used with a company called PureGenomics (https://www.puregenomics.com/). I gave them all of my test results and they gave me a printout of the recommended supplements I should take based on my genetic profile. The best part is there is no charge to get these results!! If you are interested in getting supplement recommendations based on your genetic profile and learning more about your ethnic history make an appointment at Serene Natural Health and we can help you get you set up with AncestryDNA and PureGenomics accounts.
